Nuclear energy has been used around the world, that part of the argument I accept. As far as the claims that have been made, I would want to see independent information on the project. Questions such as what we will do with the waste, what emergency management plans will be in place to deal with incidents, are the sites identified low risk or higher risk sites – simply because they are where existing power stations are, doesn’t mean that they may be ideal for nuclear power stations.
I acknowledge that there is some party specific information available, whilst I am not ruling out support, it would only be forth-coming if there was independent assessments undertaken and a full business case independently assessed.
It is also important to note that nuclear energy is potentially a smoke screen for a lack of action on cost-of-living issues, including energy prices. Nuclear will make no difference to cost of living issues that we are experiencing now.
