Vote 1 Andrew Williams

This is your opportunity to send a strong message to the major parties – We are sick of your candidates getting elected to represent you, not represent us, the voters of Aston.

By choosing to Vote 1 – Andrew Williams

You are sending a strong message to the major parties that you are done playing politics their way.  Their candidates must represent us, not their party.

Andrew Williams - Independent for Aston

How does voting independent send a message

There are two ways that you can support me, as an independent candidate.

  1. Follow my social pages – there is a link at the top.  The more people that follow, the more notice the major parties will take.  If there is a particular post that you like or support – share it, comment on it, and like it.  It will only be when the major parties thinks that there are votes in it for them, that they might listen.
  2. Vote 1 – Andrew Williams – each candidate (for party candidates this goes directly to the party) receives $3.38 per first preference vote (vote 1 -vote).  So if you vote 1 – Andrew Williams, then the major parties don’t get that $3.38.  If they are impacted in their budget bottom line, then this will have an impact.  What have they done to earn your $3.38?
  3. Volunteer with my campaign team and help send a message that enough is enough.

Value of voting independent

What is a "true independent"

A true independent is a candidate that is not preferencing one party or candidate over another party or candidate.

It is not common to go into a federal campaign without a preference deal, but in my view, preferencing one party over another is choosing a favourite.  The fact is that I do not support any of them.

That is why I am asking that you Vote 1 – Andrew Williams and then you vote 2 for the party that you would like to be preferenced.

You choose your preference, not me through some backdoor deal.

Your votes value

As mentioned above, each candidate receives a taxpayer payment of $3.38 per first preference vote (vote 1 vote).

At the last election the Australian taxpayers paid the major parties over $68,000,000.00 for first preference votes.

For major party candidates, this money goes directly to the party HQ.  When you vote 1 – Andrew Williams, the money doesn’t go to the party HQ – this impacts their budget.  When it is costing them money, then maybe they will listen.

It is true, that when I get the vote, providing I get more than 4% of the total vote, then that $3.38 will go to me.  For me this will help cover the cost of my campaign which will run into thousands of dollars.

My campaign is focused on supporting local businesses where possible, so this is taxpayer money that is coming back into Aston and not a party HQ.

Can an independent really win?

A better Aston and a better Australia

It is a tough challenge for independents to win a federal seat.  I love a tough challenge and whilst it is tough, it is not impossible.

Effectively to win the seat of Aston, I need 30% of each major party voters, to vote 1 – Andrew Williams.  If I received the 30% from each party then I am potentially a chance to win.  Research has shown that 54% of voters are disillusioned by the major parties.  I need over 50% of the disillusioned voters to support me, to have a chance.

I know that a lot of voters that I have spoken with, are in that 54%, and I am encouraged by their support.

I appreciate that there are some people that have made it clear that they support a party and not an independent, and that is what a democracy is all about.  I am never going to elicit 100% support, nor is that my expectation.

I am here to provide the people of Aston with the opportunity to send a clear message to the parties – you are elected to represent us – so where do you get off abandoning us to represent your party.  Stop putting us second!

I have including my policy thoughts to ensure that you, the voters, can participate in these policy thoughts.  As I am here to represent you, I am open to hearing your views on each policy.  I am sure that there will be some policies that you like, and some you don’t like.  My advice is that if you find any candidate that you 100% agree with 100% of their policies – then vote for them.

I am not here to influence the outcome of the seat of Aston to preference any other party or candidate.  It doesn’t matter if you want the Greens, Labor or Liberals in government (listed in alphabetical order), vote 1 – Andrew Williams and then vote 2 for the candidate or party that you prefer to form government.  This way your votes is not wasted if I don’t end up in the top two.

Andrew Williams - Independent for Aston

Thank you for considering me as a candidate.  It will be tough, but I believe that by giving all voters the opportunity to send a message to the major parties, then win or lose, it is a great thing for democracy.
