Supporting our Young Australians

by | Jan 12, 2025 | Policy, Thoughts

The major parties again fail young people.
Planned Labor party changes to the HECS indexation process that would have seen refunds to young people have been withdrawn because the Dutton Liberals and Bandt Greens have sided together to stop these important changes for our young people.
If elected, my policy is simple – every Australian will get their first successfully completed TAFE course free, their first successfully completed undergraduate degree FREE from HECS. Each Australian will get their first successfully completed post graduate degree FREE from HECS. – If you want to go back and do another course – then the user will pay. This is fair and reasonable!
Why should our young people start their careers owing thousands or tens of thousands of dollars to government.
All existing HECS debts for courses identified above will have their HECS debt wiped. Those who are on their second or subsequent degrees will have the HECS for these courses maintained.
I want our young people to start their careers, earn money, pay their taxes, and contribute to Australia – let’s not hold them back – let’s give them the support and recognition they deserve.
